We use the apostrophe to show possession.

For  one possessor, we put the apostrophe before the s.
 kid's chair (one kid)


For more than possessor,  we put the apostrophe after the s.
 kids' chairs (more than one kid)

If the prosessor are an irregular plural (men, people, children, etc)  we put the apostrophe before the s.
people's decisions
men's wear
